🌑 DAY 29 • 📅 MARPENOTH 19

Let Sleeping Fish Lie

We delve deeper into the temple, and find some sleeping quarters full of sleeping kuo-toa.

Soren instructs the party quietly to take their positions by each cot, to execute the kuo-toa swiftly in their sleep. Will protests this. When Diana asks why, Will says that "it isn't right, they're asleep". Despite this, he does not move to stop Soren when he gets into position. Hugh is fully on board with this plan, and Sildar also obliges, despite seeming conflicted.

Despite not having the party's full support, Soren signals to Nezznar through drow hand sign to execute the first kuo-toa. Will recognizes this methodology as one commonly used by the drow to raid villages--and is viscerally uncomfortable.

Soren, Nezznar and Hugh kill their respective kuo-toa; but the noise this makes results in the rest of the kuo-toa soldiers rousing from their slumber.

Clown Shitshow

The following fight is a straightforward combat--made complicated by the fact that the party has no gotdam idea how to fight a large-scale battle underwater in an open space.

Due to the disadvantage that being underwater inflicts:

  • Will rolls two nat 1's, sending his bow going 15ft away

  • Hugh accidentally hits Nezznar with his axe

  • Soren rolling a nat 1 and dropping his focus, which gets nabbed by a clam.

Nezznar helps Soren retrieve his focus, and is pleased when Soren thanks him in relief. Grymus helps Will retrieve his bow, and is similarly gratefully thanked.

Unfortunately, it becomes immediately clear that the "guard eels" that travel with the kuo-toa are electric eels, when one of them discharges a large area of shocking lightning. Sildar, Soren and Grymus take the brunt of the shock--Grymus only because she came forward to help Will).

Soren freezes up at the feeling of being electrocuted--one of Nezznar's favorite ways to punish him.

After much wrangling, we eventually manage to kill both eels and all the kuo-toa guards in the room, though not before sustaining injuries--both physical and emotional. :)
